Giving a healthy twist to a famous sindhi food "Dal Pakwan"

For dough
1 +1/2 cup whole wheat flour (genhu aata)
1 tsp oil
½ tsp salt
For dal –
½ cup spilt and skinless yellow moong dal
1 medium size peeled potato
1 tsp salt
½ tsp turmeric powder
For garnishing and assembling –
1 cup finely chopped onion
2-3 finely chopped green chilli
Finely chopped fresh coriander
Red chilli powder
Salt
Tamarind chutney
Soak moong dal for 15-20 minutes.

Add in pressure cooker and chopped and peeled potato. Add one glass of water, salt and turmeric powder.

Close the lid and take two whistles on medium flame. Keep aside.


For dough add wheat flour, salt and mix. Add oil and mix.

Prepare a stiff dough using water.

Add 1 tsp oil on dough and knead for 2-3 minutes. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.

Prepare small balls from the dough.

Dust the ball with dry flour and roll in a thin disc.

Place on a kitchen napkin and prick with a fork.

Prepare all the discs.

Fry in hot oil on medium flame till they become crispy.

Take out from oil and allow to cool completely.

Open the lid of pressure cooker and the dal should be thick. Mash the potatoes.

Now dal and pakwaan are ready to serve.

For final serving – Place dal over the pakwaan, onion, green chilli, coriander, red chilli powder, salt and tamarind chutney.
