Kaale Chane

Kala chana is mostly prepared during navratri days. This recipe is prepared without onion and garlic.

  1 Cup Black whole gram soaked overnight (kale chane

  1 Chopped green chilli

  1 Inch chopped ginger

  1+1/2 Tsp salt

  1 Tsp red chilli powder

  1/2 Tsp turmeric powder

  1 Tbsp coriander powder

  1/2 Tsp garam masala

  1 Tsp cumin seeds (jeera)

  2 Tbsp oil

  1 Bay leaf

  1 Tbsp lemon juice

  A pinch of baking soda

Soak black gram for overnight.

Add soaked kale chane, 1 tsp salt, a pinch of baking soda in pressure cooker.

Close the lid and take 5-6 whistle on medium flame. Allow to cool.

Open the lid. Check that Kale chane are boiled well.

Drain the excess water.

Mix turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 cup water in a bowl.

Heat oil in a pan. Crackle cumin seeds.

Add bay leaf, green chilli, ginger, cook for a minute.

Add all spices and cook for 1 minute.

Cook till oil and masala are separated.

Add boiled chana, garam masala, kasoori methi and mix properly.
